Show Roundup : Mary Flavelle Networking |

|
Quite often at networking sessions, books often crop up in discussion, either as a recommendation to read or inspire. Occasionally we have the privilege of meeting someone who has gone the extra mile and published their own book. It is easy to be filled with admiration for these authors because the time dedicated to putting pen to paper, sourcing a publisher, and eventually seeing your pride and joy in print. It was an honour to dedicate today’s programme to those ladies who had all succeeded in the world of words, all of them had achieved their goals, all in a very different way.
Meet the panel: Caroline Edwards www.love2read.co.uk Caroline Edwards, a Primary School teacher and mother of 3 children. Caroline decided to come up with a book that would help to inspire children to read. If the words were simple and the photos in the book were of the child’s family, it would be more interesting to pick up. There are novels out there where you can send you child’s name and photo to a publisher and for a set price your child becomes part of the book. This is something completely different and the best way to see this is to visit Caroline’s website. You need to upload your own photos, you can amend the wording, each book is totally unique. Love to Read books can be found on www.love2read.co.uk Sharon Vickery www.HaveFunFindingTheOne.com Sharon Vickery, runs an online dating agency to help you ‘Find the One’. Sharon’s book was an e-book, published on the website and guides you through the traumas of finding the perfect man. Sharon was a great speaker and knowledgeable on her subject. She is supportive of anyone trying to write their book and told people on the radio to – just have a go – if you want to write – just do it. Sharon gave lots of advice on good website to help budding authors. www.HaveFunFindingTheOne.com Julie Shorter has written a novel-recently published – and why on earth has no one thought of writing this story before? Cox and Shoppers is a romantic comedy about a cabin crew member who jets around the world and naturally loves shopping – who meets a member of a rowing team ….. buy the book to read all about it. The story is set in Henley during the Regatta, and the viewpoint of Henley’s landladies who board the world’s rowers is a fascinating read to say the least. Julie shared her story of how her book which took 2 years to write actually ended up in print. Margaret Corridan was slightly different. Margaret is an accountant and speaker on money issues, and had been approached to write a book by publishing company Pearson’s. She was very excited at being accepted and of course her story is still to come but to have achieved this success already was admirable. Margaret’s book will have characters that have life styles which need money managing. It sounded really interesting. Carla Delaney, Business Editor of the Maidenhead Advertiser and another presenter on Marlow FM, has a number of hats in the literary world. She shared the story of a young Vietnamese lady, who had lived an amazing life, one that turned to great tragedy and almost death. Lynne Pereira suffered a gallon of acid thrown in her face, she has had so many operations to reconstruct her face and she is blind. Carla is Lynne’s agent and has helped her promote the book that Lynne wrote including influencing the title name. Orchid Child is on its way to Hollywood, it deserves to be a film says Carla. Message from Mary Flavelle: It has been my privilege and pleasure to spend the last week sharing a couple of hours with the listeners of Marlow FM. A huge thank-you to Phil for teaching me how to use the desk and being so supportive, I have loved every minute- well after the first five were over. It has been a dream come true for me to get an opportunity to do a radio programme, but also it has been a pleasure to share the time with so many fantastic people with great stories and passions. As Sharon Vickery said – Just do it – live the dream. Thanks to all at Marlow FM for the past 4 weeks. Mary
