MarlowFM needs YOU!
Last year Business in Berkshire was invited to join MarlowFM and produce a business show for the period of the 28 day licence. We put on a great range of award winning shows. BinB member’s volunteered to host programmes and made them their own! This year MarlowFM is back, for 28 days, with a longer licence waving at them from just down the road. Last year the licence was so far off, almost in Australia!! Talking of Australia, one of BinB’s guests from last year is now Commercial Manager for The Sydney Opera House. So MarlowFM is not only a great station but it could be the start of a journey onto fame and fortune. Then again, you might prefer the anonymity that living in the countryside allows! Jon Davey has been asked to be the Business Editor for this year. This means essentially I am the recruiter for the business shows, ensuring balance of programming mixed with finding people who are great both vocally and at getting the most out of their guests rather than just talking for 60 minutes about how great they are!! To help create this balance the first thing I have done is recruit one of the radio stars from last year, Jean Wolfe, a co Business Editor. Brilliant decision, now I can go to sleep!! Jean runs a marketing business in Marlow, Creative Spark Communications, and is the mother of four so totally understands running a business and juggling families pressures. She comes up with some brilliant ideas as she allows her creative juices to spark ideas left, right and centre. As well as helping me look after the business shows, Jean will be co hosting Online Marketing Magic, a weekly show which will talk about online marketing and social media. Wednesday evenings from 8:00 while 9:30 will never be the same again!! More about that shortly... CONTACT US ABOUT HOSTING YOUR VERY OWN RADIO SHOW! The purpose of this message is to ask YOU if YOU would like to run your own radio show or be a guest on MarlowFM. The radio station will start broadcasting live from 26th May until the 22nd June. We have time slots available between 2pm and 5pm Monday through to Friday and would like local businesses to step up and say “Yeah, count me in!” Just tell us in 200 words or less what you would like your show to be about. MarlowFM might be based in a Bucks/Berks country town but its reach is global with a Sky Channel in our distribution network! A personal message from Sir Steve Redgrave, Patron of MarlowFM In just a relatively short period of time, this radio station has established itself firmly at the heart of the community, broadcasting live on the internet from the majority of the major community events that take place in and around Marlow throughout the year, providing a great musical backdrop and helping to promote local musicians and singers. Schools, churches and other local organisations have benefited greatly from MarlowFM supplying everything from the music for discos and functions to complete public address systems and they have quite rightly received many accolades. There is no commercial radio station serving Marlow. In 2007, MarlowFM expressed a desire to gain a 5 year FM community radio licence and so conducted a 4 week trial centred around the annual Marlow Town Festival & Regatta. This was an amazing success and saw all parts of the community come together to provide a unique service for the people of Marlow. Having been interviewed on the station during the trial period and witnessing first hand the enthusiasm of all those involved, I was pleased to be invited to become their Patron. The application to OfCom has been submitted and I urge everyone to get behind this valuable project that brings together our amazing community and give Marlow a radio station to be proud of, namely MarlowFM.
